Last week, President Clinton and the Clinton Presidential Center hosted the third session of the 2019 Presidential Leadership Scholars program. There, Scholars participated in discussions to understand how President Clinton’s clarity of vision, skill for storytelling, and core values of community, responsibility, and opportunity can be applied to their own work to improve the world around them.
In addition to President Bill Clinton, Scholars heard from:
- Madeleine K. Albright, Chair of the Albright Stonebridge Group, and former U.S. Secretary of State in the Clinton administration;
- General Wesley K. Clark, Chairman and CEO of Wesley K. Clark & Associates, and retired four-star general after serving 38 years in the United States Army;
- Alexis Herman, Chair and CEO of New Ventures LLC, and former U.S. Secretary of Labor in the Clinton administration;
- Mike Hemphill, Director of Academic Programming at the Clinton Foundation;
- Timothy Keating, Executive Vice President of Government Operations at the Boeing Company, and Special Assistant to the President and Staff Director for White House Legislative Affairs in the Clinton administration;
- Christy Standerfer, Associate Professor of Communication at the Clinton School of Public Service;
- Stephanie Streett, Executive Director of the Clinton Foundation, and former Director of Scheduling in the Clinton administration; and more.
Additionally, Scholars were joined by several members of the Clinton Administration including:
- Tina Flournoy, Chief of Staff to President Bill Clinton, who served as Deputy to the Campaign Manager in the 1992 Clinton/Gore Presidential Transition Office and in the White House Office of Presidential Personnel;
- Janis Kearney, author, who served as the Presidential Diarist to President Clinton during his time in office;
- Bruce Lindsey, Counselor to the Chair of the Board for the Clinton Foundation, who served as Assistant to the President and Deputy Counsel to the President throughout President Clinton’s two terms in office, and as the National Campaign Director in the 1992 Presidential campaign;
- Mack McLarty, Chairman of McLarty Associates, and former Chief of Staff to President Bill Clinton;
- Craig Minassian, Chief Communications and Marketing Officer at the Clinton Foundation, who served in the White House Press Office;
- Kevin Thurm, CEO of the Clinton Foundation, who served as the Deputy Secretary and Chief of Staff for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services under Secretary Donna E. Shalala;
- Bruce Reed, CEO and Co-Founder of Civic, who served as the White House Chief Domestic Policy Advisor to President Clinton;
- Kevin Varney, Chief of Staff for Government Operations for the Boeing Company, who served as a senior staff member of the White House National Economic Council; and more.
